RADM Katherine Richards was appointed as the Head Navy Engineering in February 2021, the first woman to hold the position. Prior to taking on this role she was the Chief of Staff of the Navy. In 2019, she was made a fellow of Engineers Australia in recognition of her contribution to the engineering profession. In 2014, RADM Richards was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross and in 2021 she was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia. RADM Richards graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) from UNSW Canberra in 1992.
