Narelle Underwood was appointed the 25th Surveyor General of NSW in 2016, a major role within the State Government leading the regulation of the land and mining surveying profession. At age 32 she was the youngest person and the first woman to hold the position. In 2008, Narelle completed a Bachelor of Engineering, Surveying & Spatial Information Systems at UNSW, winning the Dean’s Award twice and the University Medal upon graduation. Narelle has won many awards including the Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards Young Professional of the Year and the UNSW Maria Skyllas-Kazacos Young Professional Award for Outstanding Achievement. In 2018 she was listed in the inaugural NSW Top 50 Public Sector Women and actively mentors young women entering the profession.
