Born 9 June 1953, Michele Blum was part of the first cohort of Law students at UNSW and the first woman (alongside Helen Barry) to graduate with a Bachelor of Jurisprudence on 20 January 1975. She then obtained a Bachelor of Law in 1977. Michele practised as a lawyer at various legal firms for 15 years and spent seven years at the NSW Legal Aid Commission in both the civil and criminal legal divisions. After her career as a lawyer, she held senior management roles and was involved in the establishment of the Corporate Prosecutions Branch of the Commonwealth DPP. She has since moved into consulting and recruitment and is the Director of a leading executive search firm. Reflecting on her time at UNSW, Michele said “my memories of our classes in the huts and on the lawns of the lower campus will remain with me forever”.
