Lynette Wallworth, born 1961, is an acclaimed artist and filmmaker, renowned for her capacity to use modern technologies with empathy, innovation and insight. Raised near Hurstville in south-west Sydney, she graduated from UNSW with a Diploma of Art in 1981 and Bachelor of Visual Art in 1985. The focus on compelling storytelling in Wallworth’s work encourages a communal connectedness through interactive installations, full-dome film, virtual reality and feature documentary. Her work is regularly exhibited nationally and internationally. In 2017 she received an Emmy award for Outstanding New Approaches to Documentary Filmmaking for Collisions (2016) and won a second Emmy in 2020 for her VR film Awavena (2018). She was awarded the UNSW Alumni Award for Art & Culture in 2020 and continued her association with UNSW as an Artist-in-Residence at the Australian Human Rights Institute. In 2016 she was named by Foreign Policy Magazine as one of the year's Leading Global Thinkers.
