Kate Eastman AM SC is a top Sydney Barrister, specialising in human rights, employment, discrimination and constitutional law. She graduated from UNSW in 1990 with a Bachelor of Art/Bachelor of Law then completed a Master of Law at University College London and University of Technology Sydney. Kate was admitted to the NSW Bar in 1998 and appointed to Senior Counsel in 2012. She has worked on many significant and high-profile human rights and public law cases and has been committed to providing pro-bono assistance in these areas, receiving a Law Foundation Justice Award in recognition of her pro bono work. Kate has also taught at UTS, the University of Sydney and Monash, as well as programs in Burma and Afghanistan in the areas of human rights and international law. Kate was a Senior Legal Officer with the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (now the Australian Human Rights Commission) from 1995–98. In 2021, she was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the law, human rights and professional organisations. In 2022, Kate was awarded the Australian Women Lawyers Award for long term leadership and commitment in the support and advancement of women in the legal profession.
