Dr Bronwyn Jones, born in Sydney, was a distinguished graduate from the foundation year of UNSW’s Medical School (1960). She graduated top of her class with a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery in 1967 and completed four years of postgraduate training in Internal Medicine before moving to London to train in Radiology. A true trailblazer in the field of radiology and dysphagia, she moved to the United States and worked at Harvard for six years before moving to Johns Hopkins University in 1981. There she was made Professor of Radiology at the School of Medicine in 1991 and was Director of the Johns Hopkins Swallowing Center for over thirty years. Dr Jones was the Editor in Chief of the Journal ‘Dysphagia’, from 1990-2010, wrote over 115 original papers, over 60 chapters and co-authored multiple books on swallowing. She was a founding member and past president of the Dysphagia Research Society and past president of the Society of Gastrointestinal Radiologists. Among her many accolades, Dr Jones was awarded the highest honour of the Society of Gastrointestinal Radiologists in 2007, the Walter B. Cannon Medal. UNSW’s Dr Bronwyn Jones Radiology Travel Award, named in her honour, supports students to complete a 4-week radiology placement at John Hopkins University in the US.
