BEng (UNSW) 1966, PhD (UNSW) 1972
Associate Professor Eleonora Kopalinsky was the first woman to graduate from Engineering at UNSW. She graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering in 1966 and became the first woman PhD engineering graduate in 1972. From 1967–1970 she was a Teaching Fellow in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. She was appointed as a temporary lecturer in 1971, making her the first woman engineering academic in Australia. Associate Professor Kopalinsky returned to the School as a lecturer in 1982 and was later appointed as the Executive Assistant to the Head of School, a position she held for 10 years before retiring in 1998.
